The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)'s new Dietary Guidelines for Americans show everyone how to "build a healthy plate" containing the right proportions of nutrients to help prevent chronic disease and obesity (http://www.cnpp.usda.gov/dietaryguidelines.htm). The graphic representation of the plate replaces the familiar Food Pyramid, and provides an easy-to-understand picture of proper food portions for healthy eating.
The Guidelines emphasize the wide variety of choices available among fruits and vegetables, low-fat dairy products, whole grains, as well as animal sources of protein. Choosing what's on your plate from numerous healthy foods is easy. Happy eating!
