C–14. Easy ways to save calories

One sure way to save calories without reducing PORTION SIZE is to choose foods that are:

  1. Lower in sugar. Each teaspoon supplies an additional 20 calories.
  2. Lower in fat. (Each teaspoon supplies an additional 45 calories).
  3. See tables C–9 and C–10 for easy ways to save calories. The Right Image of Me in the Military (TRIMM) sample meals are lower in fat and sugar—thus more”nutrient dense” and lower in calories. See table C–11 for the 1200–calorie daily menu and table C–12 for the 1500-calorie daily menu.

Table C–9: Weight control—a personal choice

Table C–10: Comparison of regular and TRIMM meals
