Deployment: Central America

Honduras:
Environmental health factors posing the greatest risk to forces deployed to Honduras include:
  • water contaminated with raw sewage and industrial wastes.

Pre-deployment immunizations for all personnel include Hepatitis A, MMR, Td, Influenza and Typhoid. Selected personnel may require other vaccines as dictated by appropriate medical authority. Malaria risk is variable.

Guatemala:
Environmental factors posing the greatest health risk (in descending order) to forces deployed to Guatemala include:

  • water contaminated with raw sewage, and agrochemical and industrial wastes,
  • localized poor air quality (Guatemala City),
  • high temperatures, and
  • localized high altitudes (southwest).

Pre-deployment immunizations for all personnel include Hepatitis A, MMR, Td, Influenza and Typhoid. Selected personnel may require other vaccines as dictated by appropriate medical authority. Malaria risk is variable.
