Deployment: Haiti

Environmental factors posing the greatest health risk (in descending order) to forces deployed to Haiti include:
  • water contaminated with raw sewage and industrial wastes,
  • vegetables contaminated by raw sewage,
  • fish contaminated by ciguatoxins (neurotoxin),
  • and extreme temperatures.

Pre-deployment immunizations for all personnel include Hepatitis A, MMR, Td, Influenza and Typhoid. Selected personnel may require other vaccines as dictated by appropriate medical authority. Malaria risk is variable.
