DoD Announces Direction to Prevent and Eliminate Domestic Violence

Domestic Violence The Department of Defense Family Advocacy Program (FAP) has announced the publication of 6400.06, "Domestic Violence Involving DoD Military and Certain Affiliated Personnel," which is the first of its kind. This extensive Instruction was a collaborative effort among DoD and the Military Services and incorporates the recommendations of the Defense Task Force on Domestic Violence. It includes direction on the development of a community-wide collaborative program for eliminating domestic violence.

Resources from some other organizations can help with domestic violence prevention efforts:

  • The National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges has published The Greenbook to assist community professionals in dealing with co-occurring child abuse and domestic violence.

  • The Department of Justice (DOJ) offers an excellent downloadable poster

  • The DOJ Office for Victims of Crime has also developed a free, online Victim Assistance Training program (VAT)

  • The MIND section provides resources on stress management, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), Mental Health Self-Assessments, and other healthy mind issues for Soldiers and Families
