Army Well-Being: Mission and Goals
The mission of Army Well-Being is to improve and sustain the institutional strength of the Army through a comprehensive strategy that integrates well-being initiatives, programs, and resources to meet the well-being needs of the Army.
Army Well-Being intends to:
- Implement a comprehensive strategy that integrates well-being initiatives, programs, and resources to meet the well-being needs of the Army.
- Provide a competitive standard of living for all Soldiers, civilians, and their Families. (Essential Function)
- Provide a unique culture, sense of community, and a record of accomplishment that engenders intense pride and sense of belonging among Soldiers, civilians, and their Families. (Defining Function)
- Provide an environment that allows Soldiers, civilians, and their Families to enrich their personal life by achieving their individual aspirations. (Enhancing Function)
- Ensure leadership that maximizes the positive, combined effect of intangibles on the outcomes of well-being programs and the integrity of the institutional strength of the Army. (Intangible Function)
The objective of Army Well-Being is an integrated system of programs that:
- Recognizes that meeting the personal needs of Army Team Members is the only way to adequately address the institutional needs of the Army.
- Accounts for the dynamic nature of the Army's operational challenges and America's societal changes.
- Maximizes institutional outcomes such as performance, readiness, retention, and recruiting.
- Contributes to an institutional strength that enables the Army to accomplish its mission.
Well-Being programs are categorized within the following seven lines of operations (LO):

| Health Care |
Quality, accessible, cost-effective health care services that meet national civilian benchmark standards (essential) and that promote healthy Army lifestyles and disease and injury prevention (defining). |
| Housing and Workplace Environment |
An environment characterized by quality, affordable housing for single Soldiers and Army Families (essential) and a quality workplace environment for Soldiers and civilians (defining). |
| Education |
A system that promotes continuous personal and professional learning, provides ample educational opportunities for Soldiers and civilians (essential), and addresses the individual needs of military Family member students (defining / enhancing). |
| Family Programs |
An environment that develops self-reliant and resilient Army Families, connects Families to the Army (defining), and creates opportunities for Family members to pursue employment and career opportunities (enhancing). |
| Morale, Welfare, and Recreation |
Services and programs that help connect Soldiers, civilians, and their Families to the Army (defining) and provide access to a wide spectrum of individually fulfilling activities (enhancing). |
