Targeting Fitness Newspaper Article

Targeting Fitness, the civilian fitness program at the U. S. Army Center for Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine, provides fitness assessments for new and previously enrolled participants. The fitness assessments included the completion of a Health Risk Appraisal to assess each individual's specific health risks. The enrollees are evaluated for blood cholesterol levels, blood pressure, body composition, muscle endurance, muscle strength, cardiovascular fitness, and flexibility. The new participants are tested utilizing the MicroFit, a new piece of fitness equipment that uses a computerized system to automatically input fitness data into a database for future evaluation and comparison. Targeting Fitness participants follow up their assessment with a six-month program of exercise and health education. The goal of the program is to help the participants establish the life-long habit of increased physical activity and proper nutrition. This program supports AR 600-63, Army Health Promotion, which encourages civilians to engage in a regular program of exercise and other positive health habits.
